Strict action against Ambassador
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated various measures against former Moroccan Ambassador Mohammed Harun Al Rashid and his family members for defying orders to return to the country. He has also been accused of spreading false information about the interim government. In a press release today (March 14), the ministry said that appropriate departmental action will be taken against Mohammed Harun Al Rashid for his activities.
On December 11, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered Rashid to return to the country and was asked to report to the ministry without any delay.
The release said, “However, he delayed returning to Bangladesh on various pretexts and finally resigned from his post on February 27, 2025.”
It is learned that he left Rabat, Morocco, for Ottawa, Canada. On March 6, 2025, he was supposed to travel from Ottawa to Dhaka and return, but he did not do so.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, he tried to tarnish the image of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and the interim government and described post-coup Bangladesh as heading towards anarchy, the ministry said.
“Today, he posted an article on his Facebook profile titled ‘A plea for Bangladesh and me – Topic: Bangladesh heading towards anarchy under Yunus – The world’s silence is painful’. In it, he glorified the oppressive fascist regime and tried to portray the situation in Bangladesh under the interim government after August 5, 2024, as anarchy,” the ministry said in a statement.
“In his article, Mr. Harun has tried to tarnish the image of the various efforts and initiatives of the Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus and the interim government.’
‘Some writings in such a tone and content are completely unacceptable and deeply worrying. It completely distorts the real situation and reality of Bangladesh today under the leadership of the Honorable Principal Advisor.’
The ministry believes, ‘Mr. Harun may have some ulterior motives or hidden intentions.’
Instead of returning to the ministry in Bangladesh, he has gone to Canada and started writing on Facebook from there.
The ministry said, he referred to himself as a ‘persecuted diplomat’, ‘exiled novelist’ and ‘secular’, which is understood to be being used to attract sympathy for him abroad.
The foreign ministry said that it will not accept any such attempt by any of its officials or employees and will take strict action against the culprits.
